If You’re Interested in Dating a Widow

If you’re interested in dating a widow,
one who is a single mom with two children she’d lay her own life down for,
don’t lead with this line:

“You know, statistically, 60% of the prison community was raised in a home without father. I mean, I’m just saying.”

Yeah, don’t start with that.

Because what I heard in that sentence is, “If you don’t get married soon, and especially if you don’t get married soon to me, then your little boys are in grave danger for a future with a criminal history and imprisonment.”

And that sounds a little more like a threat than a pick-up line.

And in general, I don’t find threats to be very attractive.

Just a heads up.

  1. Wow. Just wow. And gross. How long did it take you to get out of there?

  2. Wow amazing not shocking though that he thought it would be a hook line didn’t realize it would be a sinker though!

  3. wow. just wow. this is one of those instances where i would probably stand there with my mouth open, speechless….and then later think of all kinds of “appropriate” comebacks to such an inappropriate, ignorant remark. what an insensitive buffoon. your boys are obviously in great hands and i have no doubt that neither one of your sweet boys will ever grow up to say or do anything remotely that insensitive or moronic!

  4. OY! Ignorance! Tricia, I am absolutely certain your boys will be fine! They have so much love surrounding them.

  5. Unbelievable rudeness. Sorry you had to hear that!

  6. Yikes. Don’t let it get to you. What a strange thing to say. I have all sorts of “statistics” against me too but God is bigger than that 🙂

  7. Ugh. Tricia, you have hundreds of loyal readers who are positively bristling for you right now. CREEPER. We all know it takes a village to raise a child. We also know that every village has…well, I’ll just agree with Nicole’s scripture and say “a fool.” 🙂

  8. I am always fascinated at what must be going on in the brains of folks who decide, “Yes, it is a good idea for me to say this out loud.” Holy cranolly.

  9. Yes, this guy was obviously misusing a statistic (that he got where?) to try to manipulate Tricia. The statistic was likely referring to lower socio-economic groups that sadly don’t have a great support network for families, in which children grow up witnessing and being subjected to greater amounts of crime. Anyone’s children–from any type of family–can make wrong choices. But Tricia’s boys are not “at risk.” “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion” (Proverbs 18:2). That’s 100% true :-).

  10. Oh good grief. Some people say the most ridiculous things!

  11. I am just saying that I have been a single mom for most of my son’s life…he is 16 and a great kid…its all about the parenting..whether it be one or two parents. I am sorry that was said to you!

  12. Move quickly past those people. You will do a great job raising your boys. If God sends another man in your life it will all blend together. They don’t come close to prison material. To many prayers and too much love on their side.

  13. I wish there were a LIKE button for Nicole G.’s reply. Seriously…what is wrong with people? Of course, that’s a loaded question. Your response to him should have been: “There’s a reason that you’re still single” and walk away. God has great things in store for you and your boys!

  14. And, you know, statistically,100% of guys who use that pick-up line remain single for the rest of their lives…and 95% at some point get clocked in the face after saying crap like that. I mean, I’m just saying…

    • I wish there was a like button for your comment also!!! 🙂

      • that is hilarious!

  15. Wow. Just wow. Dude really? Good thing your kiddos aren’t apart of the worlds stats. God is greater than any statistic!!!

  16. WOW. Some people think a whole lot of themselves!

  17. That’s appalling! People can be so clueless! 🙁
